Friday's Bike: A Campy-Equipped Commuter ... with Balls!

Woody uses this Campy-equipped bike to commute in Sydney's traffic.  The balls are an essential item, says Woody.  And yes, that's an older Record crankset on there.

Yes, the Campy Folk Ride Bikes

Members of Campagnolo North America's staff led a ride as part of "Outdoor Demo Day" at the Interbike show. More photos and news (non-Campy) here.

Wednesday's Bike: Paul's Retro Eddy Merckx

Paul, who hails from Olympia, WA, bought this bike on eBay several years ago. He replaced some non-Campy parts and now has a great retro ride. Check out the very retro 7-Eleven team colors.

CampyOnly.com

We're having a little trouble with the web site--you'll notice that a few things don't look quite right. Not to worry-we're on it and should have everything back in place shortly.

Tuesday's Bike: Arnaud's Pinarello

Arnaud set up his new Pinarello FP2 with Centaur (a great value in gruppos, in our opinion). He rides it in Amsterdam.

Buying Campagnolo in the Downturn: A Campy Only Survey

It's been about a week, so here are the results of our survey of potential Campy purchasers. We asked if your economic situation was going to encourage you to buy more Campy products than last year, the same amount, or less. Here's what you said (click on the image to see a graph of the results):
  • 27% of respondents said they would buy MORE
  • 48% said they would buy the SAME amount
  • 24% said they would buy LESS
That makes a total of 75% would would buy as much as or more equipment than last year. Seems some things--Campy included--are immune to hard times.

Thanks to all who took part in our survey. Another survey coming soon.

See Your Bike Here!

Your bike can be famous--just email photos and a brief description to enorris [at] campyonly[dot]com

Your bike must be Campy-equipped, but from there the field is wide open. Modern, retro, mountain, cyclocross ... anything goes!

Friday's Bike: Walter's Ciocc

Walter sent us this photo from Michigan. Here's what he wrote about this very nice retro ride. Check out the back story ...

Circa '84 Ciöcc Mockba '80: restored by Assenmacher about 10 years ago and re-built with a selection of classic old-school Campy bits: Super-Record cranks & shifting mechs, Cobalto brakes & aero levers. included some interesting old-school selections for my personal taste: early aero Wolber TX-Profile rims, Mavic retro-friction shifters, and SunTour XC-Pro seatpin.

Interesting back-story: this was my first real, honest-to-goodness racing bike i owned while in college. well, the same season I got it built up to perfection in the late 80s, it was stolen from my apartment! Fast forward several years I was fortunate enough to recover the frame and fork which allowed me to bring it back to life and re-live a little of my youth!

Tomorrow's Campy Only Ride: Knoxville DC

No, not Knoxville in Tennessee -- this ride is in Northern California. 200+ miles with about 14,000 feet of climbing. We'll be on our Campy-equipped Rivendell Road, so look for us on the road between Vacaville and Clearlake. Photos and videos will be posted after the ride.

Thursday's Bike: Bryan's Atala Special

Bryan originally bought this bike on layaway, finally working at the shop that he visited every week to bring in another $10 or $20. He recently reassembled it, with the results shown here.

Look close and you'll see some unusual bits, including a Nuovo Gran Sport rear derailleur.

Wednesday's Bike: Jeff's 70s Cinelli

Jeff is hoping for a pair of period-correct Record calipers to replace the Modolo brakes on his 1970s Cinelli, but it's an otherwise Campy Only restoration. Nice job.

Non-Campy Road Test: Sturmey Archer 8-Speed Hub

We'll be road testing Sturmey Archer's internally geared 8-speed hub in the coming months. Here's a video of the start of our test: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1CWAIY9RPw

Sunday's Bike: Grant's Serotta

Grant wrote this about his Ti Serotta:
Hey there, Just thought I'd send you a pic of my Serrotta outfitted with all campy. My baby is a 1993 Serotta Ti-Road. Identical to the Ti-legend, but they changed the name shortly after. My lover, "rotta" has Campy Choros 11 speed, Campy Vento rims, Brooks team pro saddle and is the sweetest ride around. Looks pretty too :)

Just glad there are more campy crazy people like me around.

Fulcrum

We noted earlier that Campagnolo's and Fulcrum's wheels appear to be converging. To see what's up over at Fulcrum: http://www.fulcrumwheels.com/jspfulcrum/products.jsp?lang=en&world=road

When Reliability Matters: Campagnolo

British cyclist Ian Hibbell is well-know for his cycling exploits, which have taken him around the globe on two wheels. Photos of his bikes (several of which were custom-built to his specifications) are here. Look around and you'll see more than a few Campy bits--clearly the choice of the cyclist who knows he/she will be 1,000 miles from the nearest bike shop and doesn't want to worry about anything breaking!

Wheels at Eurobike

Road.cc reports on the merging of Campagnolo's and Fulcrum's wheel lines here.

Excerpt: "With the stickers off, you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between a Shamal Ultra and a Racing Zero, or a Zonda 2-way fit and a tubeless Racing 3."

Campy-Related History

Very interesting magazine article on the famous Vigorelli velodrome in Milan has been scanned for reading here. A somewhat sad look back at the history of a place that was the scene of numerous Campy-equipped triumphs.
