From an email describing the road conditions on this weekend's 400-kilometer brevet:
"... a few more potholes ..." "Still a very rough road ..." "... recent flooding ..." "... rough descent and twisty enough ..." " ... more potholes have sprung up ..." "Landslide ..." " ... very bumpy ..." "... gravel washouts ..."
Randonneuring is not for wimpy wheels.

I couldn't agree more. In the Great Lakes region, we are on some back roads that are pretty tore up as well. A lot of rough pavement with nasty potholes. Not the place for reduced spoke count wheels. The best choice for randonneuring is a traditional 32 spoke double or triple cross wheel. When you are a long way from home, you have to have equipment you can count on.
