I find them definitely bright enough to ride with, especially with the addition of a helmet-mounted light. I have at least one friend, however, with poor night vision who would disagree. Magnic lights aren't nearly as bright as modern dynamo-powered LED lights (the B&M IQ-X is like a car headlight!), but they're a great alternative.CampyOnlyGuyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01355024150163925159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7865957007758842338.post-12219110204404788632016-09-12T08:15:10.458-07:002016-09-12T08:15:10.458-07:00I would of like to see how far the lights projecte...I would of like to see how far the lights projected in front from the riders view as opposed to a bicycle coming towards you on a dark street. Other than that, I'm seriously considering them. I figure if they last a few years, then the price will more than pay for itself as opposed to buying batteries for my lights. Thank you for the review.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13013380865761987300noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7865957007758842338.post-5154033633730025922015-09-07T21:42:21.350-07:002015-09-07T21:42:21.350-07:00Interesting concept. Also if this catches on rims that were made with some ferrous component might substantially increase the power generated?DrSirRambohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10962472678540090784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7865957007758842338.post-27645612486328199862014-10-21T04:26:31.985-07:002014-10-21T04:26:31.985-07:00The light head snaps into a bracket that fits onto...The light head snaps into a bracket that fits onto the bike. ... ibicycleheadlight.blogspot.de
Albinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02089611007664058858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7865957007758842338.post-91477495578577409772014-02-07T16:33:59.002-08:002014-02-07T16:33:59.002-08:00Thanks for the review. The commuter used the cantilever mounts (until the bike was stolen), and the lights worked fairly well, but I found the mounts very difficult to adjust, and that they frequently worked loose. The ones for my Bike Friday went on the adaptor that straddles the fork crown, which gave insufficient clearance to the tire and vibrated too mach to be usable. So the summary is that the lights are good, but the brackets need some work to be satisfactory.

I would really like to see Magnic generators, which can be mounted really close to the fork, eliminating the vibration problem, connected to a separate light. I agree it would be great to send a pair to Peter White for comparison and for Dirk to publish some good whitepapers on actual efficiency (effort/lumen&lux). If you're interested, I wrote a review of my own: http://reneeanddolan.wordpress.com/2014/01/13/six-months-with-magnic-lights/dolanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06876154317272720789noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7865957007758842338.post-91625143847013642812014-01-01T09:36:34.465-08:002014-01-01T09:36:34.465-08:00I wonder if Peter White could be convinced to take...I wonder if Peter White could be convinced to take some photos of the Magnic headlight coverage so that it can be readily compared to the available B&M, Schmidt, and other lights he has in his data already.

While I appreciate the comparison presented, the subjective impression of brightness of an approaching beam isn't too useful. One question is, how do the directivity patterns of the two different optical systems (Schmidt/B&M and the Magnic) affect apparent brightness at the observer's position when the observer is below the cutoff plane?

BUT! Thank you for an excellent review!Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14131644749935506135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7865957007758842338.post-79033846107081427702014-01-01T06:45:30.951-08:002014-01-01T06:45:30.951-08:00Thanks for the review! Always nice to get the benefit from folks who have used a new gadget.

The comparison to the B&M is appreciated, since manufacturers don't publish much meaningful data about a headlight's brightness or beam pattern.

The new version that is in the funding stage sounds quite promising. A standlight is a very useful feature, and optics that can reduce the glare for oncoming traffic can be helpful too. SteveKurthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02030166718393843244noreply@blogger.com
