Fascinating Classic Cycling

Hard to tell if there's any Campagnolo in these videos, but this archival footage, mostly from Paris in the 1930s and 40s, is full of fascinating images. Look closely and you'll see many things that recently became "new" again after all these years--recumbent bicycles, small-wheeled bikes, arm-powered "rowing" bicycles, high performance trailers, and more.

Today's Retro Bike: Eddy Merckx 50th Anniversary

Reader Francis S sent this photo from Singapore of the very nice restoration he recently completed on a classic Eddy Merckx frame, which is now built up with a 50th Anniversary Gruppo.

Very nicely done, right down to the toe clips and the classic Molteni orange.

New Classic Steel for the Campy Only Stable

More photos coming soon, but for now here's a quick photo of our latest bike: a custom-built Nicoletti from the early 1960s. Shifting is via a classic Campagnolo Velox rear derailleur. Tons of very nice details on the bike--a real gem of a town bike.

A Rare Campy Item, Potentially for Sale

One of the more unusual Campagnolo items from the classic era is the bicycle workstand that the company made for (apparently) a short time. We here at Campy Only have never seen one in the wild, and the photos below are only the second time we've come across pictures of this rare bird.

As shown in the photos, the workstand is definitely classic--all steel and built to last. This particular one is potentially for sale--the owner is looking for a collector who might be interested in picking it up. If you might be that person, email weston357 [at] comcast [dot] net

Classic Campy-Equipped Basso

From reader Dave comes today's retro-flavored bike, a classic Basso Gap. He writes,

Hello again, David from Pittsburgh PA. This is a fresh 11month long build of a classic NOS Basso Gap frame with Columbus SL tubing, I used NOS Campy C Record Delta components (seatpost & headset are chorus), Delta brakes with power grade levers, she is 8speed with Synchro down tube shifters, which actually work pretty damn good! Rims are NOS Campy Omega Strada tubulars, Nos Cinelli Grammo stem, Nos Cinelli Touch bars, Selle Anatomica saddle and Campy cables. Hope you enjoy and thanks for looking!
