Today's Retro Shots: Campy BMX Hubs

Campagnolo made a brief foray into the then-exploding area of BMX cycling in the 1980s, producing a mini-gruppo of hubs and crankset (we have one of the single-speed cranksets on our 1970s Motobecane). The parts were available in several anodized colors, including blue and gold.

Reader Warren M sent these photos of this NOS set of low-flange BMX hubs, which are (as he points out) most likely a set of Gran Sport hubs that have been repurposed with bolt-on axles.

A Campy-Equipped Classic

OK, this classis René Herse has only a dash of Campy (pedals), but it's such a fantastic machine that it deserves to be seen by any fan of fine bicycles.
More photos and some very in-depth analysis of the finer points of the frame and components over at Jan Heine's blog. Well worth checking out.

Iowa-Bound and Campy Equipped

From reader Dan S:

My 1976 Proteus Century that I still ride on RAGBRAI.  One of 3 Campy equipped bikes that I have.  Maybe more pictures to follow of the stable.

Great Campagnolo Tattoo!

Campy fan (and friend of Campy Only) Jason Pierce shows off his brand-new ink. Very cool--check out the detail in the close-up photo by clicking on the "More" link.

P.S. Notice Jason's 508 jersey--he is definitely hardcore. When we took this photo, he had just finished riding 200 kilometers on a fixed gear, and it looks like he didn't even break a sweat.
